Updated: Jul 18

Therapy? Counseling? Help? Understanding? Unconditional positive regard?
ഇതൊക്കെ നമുക്ക് കൂട്ട്യാ കൂടുവോ ഗഡിയെ?

In a way or another, we all are getting familiarized with these words in this GenZ era. We can see 7th-class students talking and recognizing their right for and about their mental health, Yeah, gladly world is growing into a mentally aware world. But there is a huge gap between awareness to accomplishing what we know. In the area of mental health, the trend of openly disclosing mental health is still new to many. Especially to our own Malayali community, it has to spread its wing a lot more.

അല്ലന്റപ്പാ, ഇതൊക്കെ ഓരോ സായിപ്പന്മാരുടെ കൂട്ട് അല്ലേ?

Are we really mentally sound?

For the Malayali community, the ‘name’ and ‘label’ means a lot to each and every. The urge to earn the best and be the best pave the path to the most literate state in the Country and other achievements. ‘#Proud Mallu”.

In this hurry how are our minds? where has mental health care reached its journey?

Is it running with us in the race? Nah, therapy being the privilege of sayippinte kali in someone’s opinion, the Statistics strengthen the opinion of Malayali being negligent about taking care of their minds in the long run. As per recent statistics, Kerala is in the top 10 states for anxiety and depressive disorders. 1 in 7 children in Kerala feels depressed, 16.49% school going children have learning disabilities and 12.57% have impairment in reading. 12-13 percent of students in India suffer from psychological, emotional, and behavioral conditions. 5.3% of Malayalees have alcohol dependency and 1 in 300 (0.33%) people in Kerala reported drug abuse. The prevalence of psychological distress is more than 34.8% in Kerala.

how does it work?

Culture plays a vital role in humankind. How does that affect one’s mental health resolutions? In the world of psychology as well, our culture plays an important role. So therapists are known that culture helps the therapeutic relationship. Somebody from our own community will understand you better than someone outside the world. The therapist's understanding of the culture and being familiar with the cultural norms help clients feel more comfortable. When you feel heard and validated by your therapist, it's much easier to open up without fear of judgment. So a Malayali therapist community is any day best for us Malayalees, Right? Anyday our porridge (Kanji) is superior to bread and roti for us, right?

That's where Koott as an Online mental health care platform for Malayalees starts our journey.

We need it, we want ears who know us primarily, and we are gonna get it.

We are here for your Kooott.in-aayi !
